FOR THE BEES

During the COVID pandemic I made this work with bees in mind, the looming extinction of bees all around the world is still a growing concern. Bees are an essential part of human life. They should be kept safe.

To shift the way we think about bees and their habitats I planted flowers at several spots in and around Arnhem, and captured the moment in with 3D scanning software.

Afterwards I transferred everything to the digital/ online realm. I created a virtual habitat for bees where the real life moments of enhancing their habitats are suspended in time forever, it could be a utopia where bees could live and thrive, but sadly they can never enter this virtual realm. Viewers, though, can experience this virtual world and fly around as a happy bee.  They have to live and survive in the real world and their future is uncertain, but we need to keep reminding ourselves that by ruining their habitat it is our own ruin as well. Viewers, though, can experience this virtual world and fly around as a happy bee. Maybe if you feel how nice it is to fly around and be a little bee the urgency to better the situation comes as well. We need to save the bees.
